According to a research conducted by scientists from the Duke University Medical Center, obese people in the United States are 25 times more likely to have problems with their sex life compared to people with normal weight. The scientists believe that due to obesity, several physical and psychological factors come into play.
A person who is obese will face diminished urge for sex, will not be able to perform well sexually and will also have a problem enjoying sex. According to scientists these problems aggravate as obesity increases. In addition, being fat and overweight also hinders performance, reduces stamina and brings about lethargy. These factors also play a role in diminishing the desire and urge to perform sexually.
Obesity also affects a person psychologically wherein the person ends up suffering from low self esteem and is often riddled with feeling ashamed and embarrassed about their state. This prompts the person to be shy of revealing his or her body to another person.
It has been seen that obesity's effect on sexuality can have a disastrous effect on relationships. It can lead to break up of relationships, especially if the person has gotten obese during the course of the relationship. The psychological and physical feelings that the obese person goes through cause problems with the communication within the relationship. This, in turn, further aggravates the matter.
