Hepatitis C And Kissing
The exchange of saliva while kissing, sharing toothbrushes could easily pass the virus of Hepatitis C from one infected person to other and this increases the chance of this disease. |
This conclusion has been attained through deep studies over the subject, researches and surveys. Scientists in the United States claim that they have discovered some sign of virus in the saliva of people who have hepatitis C and this led them to conclude that the virus can be passed on even while kissing.According to researchers, people with periodontal disease are more prone to catching the virus, and hence, should be considered as high risk category.
Hepatitis C is mainly spread through contaminated blood from one infected person to another. According to a report by the World Health Organization, 170 million patients have hepatitis C around the world.
The warning sign for this disease are tiredness, weight loss, nausea, flu, lack of concentration, stomach pain, jaundice, bleeding of gums after brushing due to which some remnants of blood can stay in the saliva. Even the infinitesimal drop of blood in the saliva can be contagious.
Although hepatitis can be cured, if left untreated, it can prove to be fatal. The usual length of the treatment is 6 months. However, in some people the infection can become chronic and last for several decades.
The person having hepatitis C is recommended to not to share toothbrush with any other member of the family, relative or friend.
The study basically suggests that hepatitis C and kissing could be connected in the sense that people with the disease could pass it on to other while kissing as their saliva could have trace amounts of blood carrying the saliva. However, the risk of such a thing happening is extremely small.
