Famous Leadership Quotes
No human being wishes to be part of the crowd. Deep inside the heart, each one desires to stand apart and lead. However, very few are blessed with this trait as an inherent quality. For most, it is an acquired trait. The term ‘Leadership’ is defined as the process of social influence in which one individual can procure the aid and assistance of others in the achievement of a mutual task. |
In any organization, leadership forms one of the most significant factors. Leadership in itself forms a challenging task, the effectiveness of which decides the accomplishment of any mission towards its assigned objective. A successful leader follows a few laid out principles, looks after the well being of his group and provides for a secure environment.
Over the years, many learned individuals have given prominent quotes that illustrate the attributes of a leader. Believing in motivation being as the most important value of a leader, Edward Bulwer-Lytton says, “The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes, and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself.” Placing inner strength as foremost, Thucydides states, “The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out and meet it.” Woodrow Wilson opines, “The ear of the leader must ring with the voices of the people.” Wilson thereby has crafted a leader in the role of a soul mate. John W Gardner firmly believes in the power of leadership and therefore has put forth the view, “The cynic says, one man can't do anything. I say, only one man can do anything."
There are many philosophies that give parallel importance to the leader and the followers. A quote by Don Coryell says, “The country is full of good coaches. What it takes to win is a bunch of interested players.” This probably has truth in it because the potential of the team mates is equally significant. Taking this viewpoint further, Malcolm Forbes suggests, “The best vision is insight.” There are many others who give miscellaneous expressions on this trait. A quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson expresses, “The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.” Henry Ward Beecher opines, “The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one often comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't.” Marking patience as an important requisite, Lucretius says, “The drops of rain make a hole in the stone, not by violence, but by oft falling.” Andrew Carnegie proclaims, “The first one gets the oyster; the second gets the shell.” Therefore, prudence and knack are also precious assets of a leader.
