The Biological Components Of Motivation
Human motivation has three primary components namely the biological component, the learned component and the cognitive component. Any change in the behavioral mold of an individual occurs as a consequence of the interaction between all three components. The interrelation between these three components stimulates the brain circuit and generates the learned responses. |
Thereafter, these responses are administered by apposite planning. The biological components mainly revolve around the constitution and blueprint of the brain. Numerous theories have been put forth to comprehend this specific component. The Evolutionary Theory projects that the form of human brain today is an outcome of years of wisdom and know-how. The brain incorporates many systems that work in co-ordination with each other to facilitate various body movements and actions. Human beings are believed to have two central minds that have complementary functioning. One looks into self protection and the other works on the conservation of the species.
Human temperament is also an important part of the biological component. The term ‘temperament’ reflects the inclination of an individual to react in a particular way. This may include the reaction and self regulation. The former explains the conduct towards others and the latter displays one’s self control while facing difficult situations in life.
Monozygotic twins have been utilized for case studies by scientists in order to examine the function of genes in influencing behavior. All actions or reactions in the body follow a channel. The brain receives stimulus from emotions and motivates action. Each emotion has a unique brain circuit. The motivation brain circuits could activate or inhibit behavior. The Behavioral Activation System gets stimulated by conditioned reflexes of rewards, thereby escalating approach behavior. On the contrary, the Behavior Inhibition System gets provoked by conditioned signals of punishment and thus the current behavior is repressed.
The limbic system is the focal point of emotional regulation. It controls feelings such as love, fear and anger. The pleasure or punishment motivation brain circuits work via the permutation of dopaminergic pathways and limbic system. Motivation leads to positive response, which stimulates the reward centers. Therefore, research makes it evident that the constitution of the human brain is structured to respond to motivation.
