Improve Child Self Esteem

When it comes to self esteem and self respect, it is important. Every person has to have a sense of self worth and it is only then that they can progress in life and work. Self esteem develops early in life. Through the positive encouragement that a child gets from his parents, self esteem is developed.

However, there are ways in which you, as a parent, can improve your child's self esteem. These are simple methods that go a long way. The first thing that you need to adopt around your child is a positive attitude. You have to be an optimist and it is only then the child will inculcate this habit. Also, you should teach your child to love himself as he is. Yes, we all want to be different, but we cannot. Once your child accepts himself, things will be easy for him.

You should point out your child's strengths and weaknesses. Make him aware of them through positive criticism. Do not be harsh and overly critical. This will wreak havoc with your child's self esteem. Also, show your love and appreciation for even the small things that your child does or achieve. Do not put pressure on your child to achieve more than his abilities or capabilities. In case your child fails in some endeavor, do not rub it in. Instead point out gently where he went wrong and ask him to learn from his mistakes so that he does not repeat them in future.

Of course, without a parent's help, love and support, it is not possible to improve a child's self esteem.
